The Lord recently laid on my heart a burden to encourage those who, like me, are called to “preach the word”.   I decided to compile a distribution list of all preachers in my contacts and plan to send out a word of encouragement every Saturday, ahead of the Lord’s Day when you will probably be involved in ministry.  This might be by way of an inspiring quote, a prayer or a short reflection on Scripture.

With the Lord’s help I also want to remember preachers in prayer each Sunday morning.
There is no higher calling given to anyone than that of regularly preaching the inspired, living word of God and we need to pray for and encourage one another as we seek to live out our calling.

Today’s word of encouragement is a quote from John Piper:

“A great hindrance to our ministry is the gulf between our Biblical understanding and the corresponding passions of our hearts.

The glorious and horrible truths which thunder through the Bible cause only a faint echo of fear and ecstasy in our hearts.

We take a megaton of truth upon our lips and speak it with an ounce of passion.

Do we believe in our hearts what we espouse with our lips?”

(If you know a preacher who would be encouraged by this weekly email, feel free to send their name to john(at)thebrands.org.uk and I will gladly add them to my list.)
