Take Up and Read!
Today, in my series of posts on reading this week, I am looking at the question ‘What to Read?’ This is a question I get asked very often in the sphere of my ministry in theological training and I am always being asked to recommend a good commentary or a book on a particular subject.
With this in mind, about 12 months ago I compiled a little booklet which is aimed at doing two things:
1. A guide to building a basic library for Christian workers, especially those starting out in Christian ministry
Here are what I consider to be the 100 essential titles to aim for
- 50 commentaries covering both Old and New Testaments
- 50 other titles ranging from Bible background to Apologetics to Church History to Biography and so on (in my listings, multiple volumes of one title count as one)
2. A guide to good, reliable and helpful commentaries reflecting different levels of study and accessibility
